Conference Chair Message,

Since the beginning of library education and training in Asia in 1915, the world of knowledge has changed from print to electronic formats. We are now witnessing fast changes in digital content and visualizing disruptive technologies in information and knowledge creation, management and use.  We, the South Asian people, require a paradigm shift and need to become the forerunners in the world of devising and developing tools, techniques, systems and services to capture, publish, organize, and facilitate access to the use of indigenous knowledge being produced in all walks of our life. Pakistan Library Association (Punjab) has decided to organize a two-day South Asian Libraries Conference (SALC2015) on 12-13 October 2015, at the Lahore University of Management Sciences in the historical city of Lahore, Pakistan.

The conference on the “journey through print to digital information and beyond” is a platform for all stakeholders to think, deliberate, share and formulate strategies to cope with the digital world challenge and opportunities. Librarians, leaders in education, public representatives, government officials, educators, decision-makers, authors, publishers, digital content producers & providers, people from civil society, media and library users will hopefully participate in this conference to find opportunities and solutions to digital content and beyond. Academic papers, intellectual opinions, posters, discussions of think tanks, exhibitions, technology stalls in conjunction with the high tech LUMS environment and ambience will be further rendered alluring by the opportunity to explore Lahore.

Building upon this platform, our colleagues in SAARC countries have also planned a series of conferences, workshops and seminars in their countries. The Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) and Punjab University Library, Chandigarh has decided to organize a South Asian Libraries Conference in November 2015 in Chandigarh, India.I am delighted to welcome you on behalf of the visionary, energetic, competent and pragmatic leadership of Pakistan Library Association (Punjab) and our highly committed and dedicated partners who are all geared up to make this another highly successful conference.
